FOOD SECURITY AND AGRICULTURE OF GEORGIA

Summary

The paper covers the term - the history of the origin of food security and its different variants, two of which were developed by the World Food Summit in 1974 and 1994, and the third variant by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The requirements of the main areas that must be met by the FAO as defined by food security are discussed. The impact of a number of factors on food security is shown, such as: deteriorating climate conditions and global warming, political instability, rising food prices, unemployment, etc. Covers the real situation of one of the main sectors of the Georgian national economy in 2016-2019 - agriculture and its role in mitigating food security. The deterioration of the economic indicators of the field and the low level of food security are shown due to the reduction of the sown area and production of annual and perennial crops, as well as the production of products in certain livestock sub-sectors. The low self-sufficiency rate of the population on most types of food and the tendency to reduce it.

The implementation of the measures presented in the conclusion in the direction of further development of agriculture will contribute to the mitigation of food security in Georgia.
